Project 7 Destroyer
This destroyer class was built in the 1930s. It was the first Soviet-designed (although with considerable Italian help) and built destroyer. Main armament of 4 130mm guns was taken from WW1-era light cruisers, making the ships some of the longest-ranged and most powerful among the destroyers. However cruiser guns were not intended for anti-aircraft use, and the ship has quite poor anti-air weapons compared to similar vessels of other nations.
The Project 7 was reworked just before war, resulting in Project 7U. All the ships still under construction were rebuilt to this specification. However the changes, being mostly related to power plant reliability, did not influence their combat effectiveness much.
